Wrangling
- Once a Ranger reaches 60th circle, he can catch horses in the wild. I'm not sure if you need to learn basic horse knowledge from a stablemaster first or not. First, you will need to head to the Golden Pard hunting area which is out the west gate of Shard on the way to horse clan. Walk around that hunting area until you find a herd of horses. Hide and stalk the herd about 3 or 4 times until you are "dangerously close" Then you can "cut herd" which will isolate a horse from the herd. Occasionally the herd will move rooms as you are stalking it, and you will need to follow it and start the stalking process all over again. After you cut a horse from the herd, you will want to "Look horse", or "Describe horse" to get a little info about size etc...If you don't like the horse, then just leave it, and find the herd again and cut another horse from the herd until you find one you are happy with. When you find one you are happy with, take out your lead rope, and "tie rope". then "throw rope at horse" This may take a few throws before you catch it. The horse will try to attack you, this is normal, but as a 60th circle ranger, if you get hurt at all by the horse...you seriously need to train combat! Once you get the rope around it's neck, then "Yank rope" to tame it. Next, type "lead horse" and walk out of the hunting area. Horses are like caravans when you are leading them. You will have to walk one room at a time and wait for the horse to enter the room before moving on. To the best of my knowledge, you will have to take your horse to horse clan, and either stable or store it. I have not found a way to get the horse past the bluff on the road from horseclan to shard. Once at the Horse clan stable, you have a couple options. You can "stable horse" which allows the stable to take your horse and care for it. This costs 2 silver initially, but if it's stabled for an extended period of time the price goes up. You can then go to Steel claw clan (if you are in prime...at this time the SCC Stables are not working in The Fallen) and "Return horse" It will take a few minutes, but the stable will locate and return your horse to that stable via moongate. If you plan on catching more horses, you can only have one horse active at a time, so instead of stabling your horse, you will have to "Store Horse" This will cost you 2 gold, and it gives you a voucher for your horse which allows you to "Unstore Horse" at any stable at a later date. After the horse is stored, and you have your animal voucher, you can go catch another horse. Keep in mind that in my experience the herd does "disappear" after you've caught around 5 horses...not sure if that's a bug or what, but it does come back after what I'm guessing is an elanthian day.
Skills
Learning and instructing
- The first thing you will want to do as a horse owner is to "ask <stablemaster> about horses" to learn basic care and handling instructions. If you are a magic using guild, you will also want to ask about magic and prepare. Certain skills have guild and circle requirements also. So for example, you will need to find a 30th circle barbarian to teach you how to load a weapon on horseback. That barbarian will first need to find a stablemaster and "ask <stablemaster> about load"
Skills Taught to Riders
- Some skills are only learnable by certain guilds...if you wish to learn a guild only skill, you will need to find a person of the appropriate guild to teach you. To learn these skills from a stablemaster "ask <stablemaster> about <skill>"
| Skill | Who teaches the class | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Horses | Stablemaster | General horse knowledge |

All the skills below can only be learned by Rangers. The Ranger can then teach the horse how to do the skill.

The Basics
- Caring for your horse
- There is a script in the Misc section of the scripting page that will feed and groom your horse for you as long as you have all the supplies to do so, but here's the basic idea if ya wanna do it yourself. To see if your horse is hungry, or in need of grooming just "Study horse"
- Feeding
- You can either spend money at the stables and buy Hay, Grain, apples, or an assortment of other things, but it's usually easiest to just forage up a tuft of grass, or some wild corn and feed your horse with that. Some things are bigger then others and require multiple feedings...others usually only require one.
- Grooming
- To keep your horse happy, you will need to Groom it regularly. To properly groom your horse, you will need a curry comb, a soft/stiff bristle brush (turn brush to change it from soft to hard), a mane and tail brush, and a hoof pick.
- To groom the coat
- Using your curry comb, "clean horse" once. Then get your stiff brush and "brush horse" once. Next "Turn brush" so you are using the soft bristles and "brush horse 2 more times. That's all there is to grooming your horses coat.
- To groom the Mane and tail
- With empty hands, "Clean horse" 2 times, then get out the soft brush and "brush horse" 2 times. Next get the Mane and tail brush and "brush horse" once.
- To groom the Hooves
- Using your hoof pick, "Clean horse" 4 times. That's all there is to Grooming your horse.
Stables
There are stables located all around the realms, and some of them have stablemasters that teach skills to players. Here is a list of Stables that I am aware of. As always if you can add any information, please let us know.
| Stable | General directions | Stablemaster | Special skills? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theren Keep | From inside drawbridge head nw a few rooms. | 2 | ? |
| Premie stable near El'bains | In the premie area somewhere. | 2 | ? |
| Crossing Royal Mews | Out north gate, take first room you can go southeast in. | 2 | Prance |
| Crossing Talberts inn | South of Tanners shed | No | N/A |
| Steel Claw Clan | North of Broken blade Tavern. This stable is non functional in The fallen | ? | ? |
| Horse Clan | At the very south end of the clan. SE of Jumping logs and fence. | No | N/A |
| Ratha | Somewhere on the fourth Tier | ? | ? |
| Aesry | Near the Docks | ? | ? |
When you are at a stable, you can do several things. You can "Stable Horse" for a small fee which will cause the stable to take your horse and care for it until you wish for the stable to "Return Horse". If you have your horse stabled for an extended period of time there may be extra charges involved. You CAN stable a horse at one stable, and have it returned to you at another stable. The stablehands will locate and return the horse via moongate. There is an additional fee for this, and it will usually take a few minutes. If you are a Ranger or a Trader, you also have the option of storing a horse, which will replace the horse with a voucher that you can keep so you are able to "unstore" the horse at a later date. This is very useful because you are not allowed to have more then 1 horse at a time. So any time you go wrangling or selling horses you have to store your active horse first.
Horse Trading
You have to be in a Broker office to trade horses. There are offices in El Bains, Theren Keep, Riverhaven in the noble inn, and out the north gate of Crossing in the Royal Mews horse area. I think there may be one in Horse clan also, but I'm not positive.
Once your in the office, you need a Trader of sufficient circle (25th), and the Horse seller. If the buyer will be taking possession immediately they need to be at the office also. The horse however does not need to be at the office, and can either be out in the open, or stabled.
To sell the horse to the trader, the trader must OFFER SELLER AMOUNT CURRENCY. There is a minimum and I believe it's 10 kronars, but you'll know from the messaging if it's higher. The seller then must ACCEPT TRADER CONFIRM
Next if the buyer is there, they will have to OFFER TRADER AMOUNT CURRENCY. The minimum is still in effect with this transaction. Then the Trader must ACCEPT BUYER CONFIRM
